Katerina found a second family
When Katerina* first came in contact with the Hope Center she was in a poor emotional state. Her partner had abandoned her when finding out she was pregnant, so in addition to raising her 8-year-old daughter, she now had to face the arrival of a new baby on her own. Also, due to financial difficulties, she was living with a friend. In this difficult situation the Hope Center became a lifeline for her, offering practical and emotional support.
As soon we met her, we started arranging doctors’ appointments and accompanying her to the medical examinations. Our team organized a support group of people who were moved by her story. The response was touching as they managed to fill a car with needed items for the young pregnant woman - from baby bottles, bibs, and baby products to carpets and a heater! The material support was a huge relief for Katerina, however her emotional state remained very fragile. Our team also offered her counseling and emotional support.
Katerina gave birth to a healthy baby boy during the first lockdown last March. Even during this period of confinement, we continued to stand by her, accompanying her to medical appointments and providing food, diapers, and other baby supplies each week.
Today Katerina is living in a house of her own and her mother is helping her as well. During a phone conversation we had recently, her mother asked to speak to us. She began to cry and said: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You took care of my child and my grandchildren, while I could not. God bless you!".
