It's Worth It
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst". ~ John 6:35
Quarantine was a particularly stressful period. The world was overwhelmed by feelings of fear, anxiety and loneliness. But God, even in such difficult situations, is working something good for us. These days we need stories of encouragement, stories of people turning to the true source of life.
Such a story was told to us by Mr. Christos, owner of a bakery in Ioannina. During the quarantine period, as he says, "Something strange happened, four completely different people and strangers to each other told me that they had started reading this book that some people had given them two or three years ago".
These customers, buying their daily bread, talked to him and reported on a New Testament, which was somewhere in their home. In fact, one of them has made great progress till to this day, as he is currently reading 'Romans' and his thirst is growing.
Among them, Mr. Christos told us about a client who was looking for a little hope in the difficult days of isolation, as family problems burdened her soul. In her conversation with the baker, she remembered this forgotten New Testament and he urged her to read it.
He confesses, “As soon as the client left, I thanked God for all those who have been giving their money and time of life for years to share all these Holy Scriptures for free”.
Many times, in ministries such as 'Operation Joshua' in which we do not immediately see the results of our actions, the possible rejection we face, raises doubts about the importance of our work. We begin to wonder whether our effort is really worth it. Various questions fill our minds, such as "Is it worth spending our time, our money?", "Is it worth continuing to try, even if we are not accepted by everyone?" Many times, we forget that among these people there are some who cry for help, who seek to find the truth, but no one ever went to talk to them. So, is it worth it for these some?
Upon hearing such a story, these concerns are put aside. Our answer is given by the customers of the bakery. They may not have been interested in reading the Bible right away, but they kept it in their home and God in his own time, using the state of confinement, led them to open it. The answer is simple...it's worth it! We see it now, but God is constantly working, and the only sure thing is that His word shall not return empty (Isaiah 55:11).
