Supporting young lungs

When pregnancy is unexpected, hope begins at the Hope Center

A positive pregnancy test does not always bring joy. For many women, especially those facing difficult circumstances—abuse, poverty, isolation, or abandonment by a partner—the news can trigger panic, depression, and a sense that the ground is crumbling beneath her feet.

In moments like these, when an unexpected pregnancy brings more fear than hope, we stand by pregnant women through the Hope Center, offering a steady hand and a safe support network that can be captured in one simple but powerful promise: you are not alone.

The women we support

Since 2012 we have helped more than 90 women find hope and strength to move forward with their lives. The beneficiaries are mainly immigrants from Africa, refugees from the Middle East, but also very young women from Greece, Northern Europe, and America.

"The common denominator is panic and the feeling that they are alone. As soon as we tell them, 'I am here for you,' they take a deep breath and realize that they can face what seemed impossible."

— Xanthi Palachantsidou, Director

Our services

Through our helpline, counseling, and active support, we offer guidance without pressure or judgment. "We don't direct decisions; we tell the truth, explain the options, and stand by them whatever path they choose," says Xanthi.

Specifically, we offer a number of free services:

  • Counseling for women who choose motherhood, adoption, or who are processing the trauma of abortion
  • Accompaniment and translation to help women access legal support (bureaucratic procedures, social benefits) and medical care (appointments, tests, etc.)
  • Basic maternity supplies for mothers and newborns
  • The opportunity to participate in the creation of Hope Candles, through which women earn a small income, build dignity, and find a safe space for expression. These candles are sold at charity bazaars, churches, and partner organizations.

Fenia's story

Fenia* was an international student who suddenly found herself facing an unexpected pregnancy. As an HIV positive woman, she experienced deep fear—both for her own health and for her baby’s. Through the Hope Center, we were able to walk with her through this difficult period, offering holistic support. Ultimately, Fenia decided to return to her home country to give birth. A few months ago, she welcomed a healthy baby girl. Now, she is working to complete the necessary paperwork so she can return to Greece with her child, as her partner has abandoned her. We continue to stand by her with practical help, psychological support, and prayer.

“We all go through moments when we feel alone and uncertain about what to do, especially when we are faced with the unexpected. In those moments, we need to know that we are not alone—that we can turn to someone who will walk alongside us. I am grateful that, with God’s help, we can offer this kind of support.”
