Fivos: The young man who followed the will of God to faraway Peru
"What is the meaning of life?" was the question that made Fivos change his life 180 degrees, leaving his plans to return to his homeland Greece, and make a fresh start in Peru.
Fivos is a Greek who grew up in Germany and his dream has always been to return and live in Greece. After graduating from Bible school, where he studied theology, he decided to take a trip and the place he chose was Peru because his close friends came from there. 2011 was the first time he was there and stayed for 3 months. He will never forget the moment he climbed Alto Peru - a hill accessible by car - and many children started running behind his friend's car, shouting his name. It was at that moment that Fivos felt for the first time in his heart that this place was for him. Inside, he refused to accept it, because he did not like the idea of not returning to Greece at all. On one hand, his mind was telling him that he had to stay in Greece and on the other that he had to stay in Peru. So, he asked God to change his heart and within a few days he stopped thinking about Greece, he fell in love Peru and so far nothing has changed!
In the beginning, he had to travel back and forth between the two countries. He first went to Germany to work and raise money. He then traveled to Peru for 6 months and then returned to Germany for work. He eventually managed to get his Visa and settled permanently in Peru in 2014, south of Lima, in a neighborhood called Chorillos, - a difficult area with drug problems and more.
It was not difficult at all to adapt, because the Peruvian culture has many similarities with the Greek. He started working with children and teenagers and so very quickly the people of the place accepted him.
Fivos was willing to obey the will of God, leave his homeland and go to serve in a country different from his own, on the other side of the world
"Many say that in order to find the meaning of life, you have to look inside yourself. But I believe that you do not find the meaning of life in yourself, but in Christ. In order to understand what God wants from your life, you must know Him more. To read the Bible, to pray and of course not to sit around being idle until you receive the answer", comments Fivos and continues with an invitation: "Start right where you are to serve God. In your family, in your school, in your work, amongst your friends".
