Νeeds next to us
"Who would have thought that this 82-year-old man, unshaved and suffering from a broken leg, use to be a Mathematician at the University in his youth? After chatting for a while, I asked him if we could help him in any way, he replied 'as you know winter is coming and I'm not prepared for the cold...could you give me a blanket?'
A while later, we found a shop that sold blankets, quilts, and rugs. We noticed a nice thick, soft blanket and I asked how much it cost. But before I could hand the money to the store keeper, she asked me why we needed the blanket. I explained the situation to her and what we were doing. She was touched and would not accept any payment.
Full of joy, we returned to the street where the elderly man was sitting and gave the blanket to him. Excited about his new possession he asked us to cover him. So many needs are right before our eyes. Since we can so easily help our fellow human beings and make them happy even for a little, why not try and do it more often?"
